Real estate postcards and direct mail campaigns are part of most realtor’s marketing plans. Unfortunately, sometimes real estate agents make mistakes that can be a detriment to their marketing campaigns. Avoid these common real estate farming mistakes.
No Call to Action Forgetting a call to action on every piece of mail you send out is one of the top mistakes agents make. Don’t simply include your contact information. Give them a call to action. Offering the client something for free such as a selling guide can help you increase the interest. People are more likely to check out your information if there is something in it for them. Failure to Customize Mailers Not everyone is looking for the same thing. The best thing to do is break out a specific area you plan to farm into key demographics. Then send out postcards that meet those client’s needs. You can focus on things such as stage of life or age to create tailored postcards. Retargeting Just Closed Clients If you just helped a client buy or sell a home, it may be a better idea to ask for referrals rather than sending them a postcard immediately. They probably don’t want to get your postcard on how it’s the right time to sell when they just closed and moved in. No Follow-Up Plan Ready After spending countless hours crafting the perfect real estate farming plan, the last thing you want is to not be ready to follow-up. The easiest way to follow-up when you have no plan is to respond in kind. Answer emails with emails, phone calls with phone calls. You may also consider dropping off something with more information. Staying in One Area Go beyond your general marketing area to farm a new geographic area to expand your business. Look for niche areas especially for new agents. Tailor a campaign to a mini-area and see what happens. These real estate farming mistakes don’t have to be yours. Follow the simple advice and have a marketing campaign that sees results.
